This is the Untouched version of Dali Atomicus, which took 28 attempts before photographer Philippe Halsman was satisfied. This version reveals the the prop that holds up the stool, the assistant who holds the chair and the strings that hold the easel.

Even more fascinating are the concepts that led to this photograph. Philippe dismissed the idea of throwing milk because people recovering from the deprivations of WWII might consider it a waste of milk. There was also the idea of an exploding cat caught in mid explosion but that was potentially a waste of cats and was dismissed as well.
